Porcelain Crowns Can Fix Your Teeth in Dripping Springs, TX
If you have a tooth that has suffered severe damage, we will do everything in our power to save it. There are some instances where we may be able to fix a tooth with bonding or fillings, but there are other situations that may require a porcelain crown.
Here at Dripping Springs Family Smiles, we also offer full gold, zirconia, and porcelain-fused-to-metal dental crowns, in addition to porcelain crowns. During your dental visit, Dr. Quintana and Dr. DeMarco will be sure to answer any questions you may have regarding which dental crown material is best to treat your dental needs.
When Is a Dental Crown Needed?
There are several circumstances where a dental crown may be needed. They include:
If you have severe oral tooth decay, a porcelain dental crown may be recommended to provide strength and protection to the tooth; preventing you from losing the tooth.
If you have a fractured tooth due to a traumatic accident, or grinding your teeth.
Dental crowns are also used to correct misshaped or discolored teeth.
If you require a root canal, a dental crown may be needed to provide the remaining tooth additional protection from fracturin.
A porcelain crown could be right for your needs as well, so schedule a consultation with our office to learn more.
How Is a Porcelain Crown Placed?
After you’ve been evaluated by the dentist, a crown generally requires two visits to complete. During the first visit, we will prepare your tooth for the crown. Any tooth decay will be removed during this procedure, and the missing tooth structure will be replaced with a strong “build-up” material to enhance the strength of the tooth. Once we are done preparing the tooth for a crown, we will take an impression or digital scan of your tooth and send it to the lab to ensure your crown will fit perfectly. We will also place a temporary crown on the tooth to protect it in the meantime.
Once your crown is ready, we will call you back to our office. We will remove the temporary crown and place the permanent crown on your tooth. We will use a special cement to make sure your crown fits snugly and securely, and we will ensure the shade matches the rest of your smile. Finally, we will give you an opportunity to review our work before we are done!
